Ana Gandum



Ana Gandum (b. Évora, Portugal, 1983) works mainly with vernacular photography and co-related narratives approached through multiple disciplines, actions, methodologies and media, hence forming a plural audiovisual assemblage and differentiated research device.
Gandum holds a degree in History from FCSH – Nova University of Lisbon (2005), a Master 2 in “Histoires, Savoirs, Pouvoirs” from Université Paris 8 Saint-Denis (2008) and a PhD in ArtisticStudies – Arts and Mediations from FCSH – Nova University of Lisbon (2019).
She currently lives in Funchal, and works at Fortress of São João Baptista of Pico, for Madeira’s Regional Directorate for Culture. She is an integrated member ICNOVA – NOVA Institute of Communication.
In 2020 she worked as an invited lecturer at FCSH – Nova University of Lisbon, teaching Photography and Visual Culture. She is currently an invited lecturer at University of Madeira.


She is also a singer/songwriter having occasionally collaborated with other artists and musicians:
